Pause Julie on a single conversation

Take one conversation over yourself: pause Julie for a single lead so she stops replying to them, without switching her off for your whole account.

Written by Stephen Whiting

Sometimes you want to step in and handle one lead personally, but you don't want to switch Julie off for everyone else. Now you can pause Julie on a single conversation. While a lead is paused, Julie won't draft or send any replies to them — but she keeps working normally with all your other leads.

Who this is for

This control is available on accounts that have Conversations (the Julie add-on, or the standalone Conversations plan). If your account doesn't include Conversations, you won't see the pause control.

How to pause Julie for one lead

Open the conversation with the lead you want to take over, and use the pause control. You'll find it in any of these places — they all control the same thing:

  • Conversations — in the contact panel on the right (Conversations in your dashboard).

  • The lead's page — on the Conversation tab.

  • The new dashboard — in the header of the conversation thread.

Switch it to paused. You'll see a note confirming it: "Paused — Julie will not reply to this lead."

What happens while a lead is paused

  • Julie writes no drafts and sends no messages to that lead — even if you have auto-send turned on.

  • The lead stays paused until you resume it. There's no timer and no automatic resume.

  • The pause applies to Julie only. You can still text the lead yourself, and any automations or drip campaigns keep running as normal.

  • The paused state is the same everywhere — if you pause from the lead's page, it shows as paused in Conversations too.

Bringing Julie back

Open the conversation and switch the control back to active. You'll see "Julie will reply to this lead." Julie picks back up on the lead's next incoming message.

If you already use the "ST Ai Text Stop" tag

Some agents pause Julie by adding a tag named ST Ai Text Stop to a lead. That still works exactly as before, and it now stays in step with the pause control in both directions:

  • Adding the ST Ai Text Stop tag to a lead pauses Julie for that lead.

  • Removing the tag resumes her.

  • Pausing with the control adds the tag; resuming removes it.

Use whichever you prefer — they're kept in sync. (Only the exact tag name ST Ai Text Stop pauses Julie; similar-looking tags have no effect.)

Good to know

  • Julie's replies are generated in the background, so after you resume a lead her next draft can take a minute or two to appear.

  • Pausing affects Julie only — it doesn't stop your own messages, automations, or drips.

  • This control isn't available in the StreetText Go mobile app yet.
