Creating custom fields for your leads

Define custom fields once in Settings and use them on every lead β€” with types, ordering, and a hide-until-filled option.

Written by Stephen Whiting

Custom fields let you track extra information on your leads that matters to your business β€” a budget, a preferred neighborhood, a closing date, whether they're pre-approved, and so on. Instead of typing a one-off field name on a single lead, you can now define a field once and have it available on every lead. You can also read and write these fields through the StreetText API.

Create and manage your fields

Go to Settings β†’ Custom Fields. From here you can:

  • Add a field β€” give it a name and choose its type:

    • Text β€” free-form words or notes

    • Number β€” numeric values

    • Date β€” a date picker

    • Dropdown β€” a fixed list of choices you define

    • Checkbox β€” a simple yes/no

  • Reorder your fields to control the order they appear.

  • Deactivate a field you no longer use β€” it's removed from the lead view, but any values already saved on your leads are kept.

  • Hide until it has a value β€” turn this on for a field you only want to see once it's filled in (great for occasional details). Fields without this option always appear on a lead, empty and ready to fill.

Fill a field in on a lead

  1. Open a lead.

  2. Find the custom fields in the Additional Data section of the lead.

  3. Use Add Field to pick from the fields you've defined. Each field shows the right input for its type β€” a date picker for dates, a checkbox for checkboxes, a choice list for dropdowns, and so on.

  4. Enter the value and save. Your entries persist across reloads and show consistently wherever the lead is viewed.

Hide-until-filled behavior

A field set to "hide until it has a value" won't appear on a lead while it's empty. As soon as a value is added β€” whether you type it in, an automation sets it, or it arrives through the API β€” the field automatically appears on the lead, already populated.

What happens to existing custom values

Any one-off custom values already on your leads are preserved and continue to display as before.
